Steve is a volunteer with the RCM SAR Station 2 and he will be introducing us to himself, the RCM SAR, and the station to tell us about who they are and what they do.
Who is RCM SAR? It is are a charity that saves lives on the water. It is volunteer based operating 33 rescue stations on the west coast and the interior with 1100 volunteers.
The volunteer crews are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year ready to respond to marine emergencies. As an organization they conduct approximately 800 marine rescues every year. The provincial website has further details. www.rcmsar.com
Station 2 is located in North Vancouver and operates out of Lynwood Marina. Their area of responsibility covers English Bay to the west, Port Moody inlet to the east and North to the tip of Indian Arm. They respond to an average 55 calls a year with 40 volunteers. They operate two vessels, a 11 meter jet boat and a 7.5 meter RHIB. Their website www.rcmsar2.com provides detailed information.
Beside being involved with rescues we also work towards prevention and awareness of boating safety.
