As we approach the end of another Rotary year, it is a fitting time to reflect on how far we have come and look ahead to the opportunities that lie before us. Over the coming weeks, we will continue distributing funds to the many deserving community and international causes we have supported this year while also planning for the year ahead
Our Club has enjoyed growth in membership, bringing new energy, fresh ideas, and additional opportunities for service. Together, we can be proud of our accomplishments and optimistic about the future as we continue making a positive difference in our communities and beyond.
Many thanks to our members, friends and partners for your valued support during the year – we could not do this without you.
On May 6, we held the final Seniors Lunch and Learn session of the year at The Atrium at Parkgate. The event was very well attended and featured presentations by President Ian Johnston, who provided an overview of Rotary and our Club, Cherian Itty of Comfort Keepers, who spoke about in-home care services, and Mike Beishuizen of West Coast Wills & Estates, who discussed wills and estate planning.
Special thanks to Cherian for spearheading this highly successful program and to the Government of Canada for providing funding support.
District Governor Nominee Ron Shaw and President Ian attended the Rotary District 5040 Annual General Meeting via Zoom on May 9. In addition to the regular business of the District, members approved a modest increase in District dues. Beginning in the 2026–2027 Rotary year, District dues will rise by $3 per member annually.
Rotary Areas of Focus
Members of the Windsor Secondary Interact Club joined us on May 13, accompanied by Principal Mrs. Caren Hall and Interact Mentor Ms. Antonia (Toni) Lazarova. The students delivered an impressive presentation highlighting their fundraising efforts, community service projects, and thoughtful charitable donations throughout the year. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to helping others are a credit to both themselves and their school.
The club’s achievements are truly inspiring and set a wonderful example for future generations of Interactors. To recognize the graduating members, President Ian presented each student with a Rotary Four-Way Test keychain as a reminder to help guide them on life’s journey.
The club had the honour of presenting Windsor Secondary Interact Mentor Toni Lazarova with a Paul Harris Fellow Award recognizing her outstanding commitment to youth leadership and service.
As Teacher Sponsor of the Windsor Secondary Interact Club, Toni has inspired students through her
dedication to education, community involvement, and Rotary values. Youth programs are a cornerstone of Rotary, helping young people develop leadership skills, broaden their horizons, and learn the importance of service above self through meaningful hands-on experiences.
On May 27, Gilles led an engaging discussion on membership challenges and opportunities facing our club and service organizations everywhere. Membership growth and retention remain key priorities for Rotary and are essential to ensuring the continued impact of our service work.
Gilles has distributed a membership survey to gather member feedback and perspectives. The results will help guide future discussions, establish realistic membership goals, and support the development of an action plan to strengthen and grow our club.
District Governor Nominee Ron Shaw, several members of the District 5040 leadership team, and Rotarians from New Westminster recently participated in a Walk to End Polio event to raise awareness of Rotary’s long-standing commitment to polio eradication.
Through decades of advocacy, fundraising, and immunization support, Rotary has played a leading role in reducing polio cases worldwide. With the disease now endemic in only two countries, the goal of global eradication is within reach.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners who support us throughout the year. Your assistance helps make our work possible. Thank you.
